Good job! You’ve got the talent, inherited from your grandpa/my father.
Do you still remember, you wrote about me when you were 9 years (at third grade) in PS something in Rego Park, NY. It was in 1999. Your short article fascinated your teacher, since your were a newcomer and still struggling with your ESL, and she posted it at the display –only for the best compositions posted there.
She invited me to read it. I was astonished how you had written it, since what I knew, you had interviewed me a week before, and you still struggled with your English. And the article was about me.
Your short article in New York fascinated your teacher, since she had worried, you spent 3 months at school but did not utter a word! and suddenly you came up with an article.
According to your teacher “beyond her comprehension, how all of the sudden you were able to write it with rich verbs and nouns, and no mistakes in grammar! she could not expect such an article was written by an indonesian boy who just arrived few months ago!
The second time, it was when we had moved to Flusing/Fresh Meadows, and you were registered at PS something there.
One day you showed up from school, coming up with a piece of paper. It was about the forthcoming competition for Spelling Bee. You were at the 5th grade, to represent your school at the regional competition. We, as parents, were asked to take you there. You did not win, but that is not important.
The fact that, you were alone selected among all students from your school and to represent them in the competition is really an achievement. And, you were son of an expat, with Indonesian as mother tongue, but had shown them your determination.
The next day, all your friends, and the school master would greet you: Hi, champ!
Please try to get in touch with your teachers back in New York, and friends too, through Friendster, or FB, or Twitter, by all means, to recollect the good old days in New York.
Bravo, Jijana
